Good Morning and Welcome to the 3DB. For today I have a video on America’s first “Airline Captain” and a number of articles from 2013 that I think you will enjoy as well. Next week I will be back from Guasca, Colombia ready to begin the New Year and for the month of January I will focus on an issue that is close to my heart. Why do pilots allow their airplanes to fly in to the ground?
For thirty years I have flown in, and around, the volcanic mountain peaks of Central America, the Andes in Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru, and the Hindu Kush/Himalayas of Central Asia; however, mountainous terrain is not always the cause of CFIT. Situational awareness is key but I have had unexpected surprises, for a number of different reasons, and I am sure there are those reading this that can relate. There will be a series of articles that I will present so that all of us can revisit this very important subject and perhaps avoid a fatal surprise.
Enjoy the weekend, take time for yourself, and family, to focus on the important things in life.
